CEO & Founder

Maura Colleton Corbett is the CEO and Founder of the Glen Echo Group, where she leads the team’s award-winning work in telling the stories of the companies and organizations building the New Economy.

With over two decades of communications, media, public affairs and coalition building experience, Corbett provides strategic counsel to clients faced with the complicated challenges surrounding the shift to the digital, Internet-enabled world, including innovation policy, wireless technologies, broadband deployment and applications, and content-related issues including privacy, security and copyright.

Corbett helps clients translate new technologies and innovations into compelling communications vehicles that resonate with policymakers, press and the public in order to inform forward-looking, successful policies that move the digital economy forward. Corbett brings unique and deep-rooted experience in industry coalition building for a number of high-profile matters, most recently, Net Neutrality, SOPA-PIPA, music licensing, and Wi-Fi. She also has done significant work in mergers and acquisitions within the communications and digital media space.

Corbett is Chairman of the Board of Directors for Public Knowledge, a member of the Center for Democracy and Technology Advisory Council and a Business Advisory Board member for the National Hispanic Media Coalition. She is a frequent speaker and commentator on Internet public policy, coalition building, branding and the media.

Corbett was named a finalist for CEO of the Year by PR News in 2017 and a Top Woman in PR by PR News in 2014 and received the 2010 Women in Technology Leadership Award for her demonstration of exemplary leadership skills and exceptional results in community-related work, the first WIT award ever for a woman in the public affairs industry. She was recently deemed one of DC Inno's 2016 "50 on Fire" in the Government & Advocacy space. 

Corbett lives in Bethesda, MD with her two marvelous daughters and one naughty dog. In a previous life, she used to moonlight as the lead singer in a rock band.

Vice President

As Vice President at Glen Echo Group, Ellen Satterwhite helps clients formulate policy positions and tell their stories with good one-liners backed by solid data. As a co-author of the FCC’s National Broadband Plan, Consumer Policy Advisor to the Commission and freelance consultant, her work has been written about in Huffington Post, AllThingsD, CNet, Geekwire, GigaOm and CivSource. Previously, Ellen served as Program Director for Gig.U, supporting communities seeking gigabit speeds.

Satterwhite earned a Master’s in Public Affairs from UT Austin and a BA from Grinnell College. She believes brevity is the soul of wit and someone should tell that to YouTube commenters.

Matthew Ballard

Senior Associate

Matthew Ballard joins Glen Echo Group as a Senior Associate. He assists clients with media relations, creating long-term communications strategies and advocacy initiatives aimed at advancing the New Economy.

Prior to Glen Echo, Matthew spent nearly a decade as a communications and political specialist, most recently serving as the Deputy Communications Director for the U.S. House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee. In that role, Matthew led the Committee’s strategic communications and public relations efforts on cyber and national security.

Additionally, Matthew led public relations efforts at a national military nonprofit, served as Communications Director to a Member of Congress and worked on numerous political campaigns in Kentucky, Nevada and Indiana. Matthew began his Washington, D.C. career in the White House Office of Political Affairs during the George W. Bush administration.

Matthew received a B.S. in Economics from the University of Kentucky. He was born and raised in Bardstown, KY, the “Bourbon Capital of the World,” and shares his passion for his hometown’s native spirit and Kentucky basketball while residing in Alexandria, VA with his wife, Charlene.

Courtney Cowper

Manager of Operations

Courtney serves as the Glen Echo Group’s Manager of Operations, covering all ends of the spectrum (pun intended) – from event planning & logistics to communications editing, HR, and office management.

Before GEG, Courtney had the opportunity to share her passion for Catullus, synchysis and the accusative case teaching high school Latin. She also dabbled in marketing and media for a small business focused on early second language acquisition.

Courtney graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Kenyon College with a B.A. in Classics. She strongly believes that Ancient Latin and Greek provide the foundation for great success and that Gambier, Ohio is quite possibly the best place on earth.

Alexander Jeffery

Associate

Alexander Jeffery joins the Glen Echo Group as an Associate. He assists clients with a range of tasks including research, development and implementation of public affairs strategy, event planning and content creation.

Prior to joining the Glen Echo Group, Alex spent time on the Hill, interning in the Office of Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ), as well as for the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

Alex is a 2016 graduate of the George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs and a concentration in International Politics. He grew up in the ‘burbs of New Jersey, although his family’s house on the Jersey Shore is his happy place (no, he doesn’t know Snooki).

Kris Carpenter

CFO

Kris Carpenter is the CFO of the Glen Echo Group. She brings more than 20 years’ experience in corporate finance to GEG; most recently as a consultant to small and medium sized businesses who assisted in setting and achieving strategic financial goals for their growth and profitability.

In her current role, Carpenter provides financial recommendations to support critical business decisions; conducts “what if” analyses; interacts with and supports stakeholder groups; performs cash flow analyses; conducts due diligence; acts as corporate liaison to banks and creditors; and manages all back office activities.

Carpenter grew up in a small Pennsylvania steel town and was the first female in her large extended family to attend college, graduating from Penn State University with a BS degree in Accounting. She recently earned her RYT200 Yoga teaching certification.

She met her husband of 26 years, Scott, at work. Together, they have a grown son, an incredibly sweet Labradoodle, and a pond filled with nearly record-setting sized Koi fish. In her spare time.

Sarah Richman

Associate

As a Glen Echo Group Associate, Sarah Richman provides a range of support services for clients including content creation, social media strategy, event support and research.

Originally from Maryland, Sarah came to Glen Echo Group from the tech startup world in Minneapolis. Strategic storytelling is her specialty, a skillset she developed through social justice-oriented nonprofit work, freelance writing for a range of clients and writing for a sketch comedy troupe.

Sarah graduated from Macalester College with cum laude degrees in International Studies and Creative Writing. She is writing a dystopian novel on the side and would like to hug your dog.

Cyrus Rassool

Senior Associate

Cyrus Rassool joins the Glen Echo Group as a Senior Associate. He assists a range of clients with policy analysis, content creation, campaign implementation, advocacy, and research.

Prior to the Glen Echo Group, Cyrus worked at Freedom House on the Global Internet Freedom Program. At Freedom House, he worked with digital activists, governments, non-governmental organizations, and tech companies on Internet governance issues and to promote and protect human rights online.

Cyrus earned a Master’s in Public Policy from George Mason University and a BA in Political Science from Old Dominion University. Though he grew up near the beach, Cyrus prefers the comfort of air conditioning and Wi-Fi.

Catherine Dillingham

Senior Associate

Catherine Dillingham, known to most as ‘Wren’ serves as one of the Glen Echo Group’s Senior Associates, specializing in branding and content creation.

Prior to joining Glen Echo, Wren served as a Senior Creative Content Manager at the Internet Association, where she led social media efforts, managed the creation of visual and video assets and aided in organizing strategic, issue-based campaigns. In her spare time, she can be found painting murals or creating chalk art at various breweries in the DMV area.

Wren graduated from the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities before getting her degree in Media Arts from the University of South Carolina. She currently resides in Arlington, VA with her co-dependent black cats, Marco and Polo.

Senior Counselor

Chris Frates, Founder of Storyline, joins Glen Echo Group as Senior Counselor. Frates has spent his life telling stories. One of Washington’s top journalists, he has been on the front lines of the country’s biggest political and policy battles.

A veteran journalist with 20 years of experience, Frates has worked at the highest levels of print, digital, radio and television. Before founding Storyline, he was an award-winning on-air investigative correspondent for CNN. He also worked as a reporter for Politico, National Journal and The Denver Post, where he was part of the breaking news team that was a finalist for the 2007 Pulitzer Prize. His work has appeared in publications such as The Washington Post, The Atlantic and Fast Company, and his political analysis has been featured on networks including CBS, NBC, CNN, FOX News and MSNBC.

Frates co-hosts the weekly, national SiriusXM radio show Politics Inside Out, which is broadcast to more than 30 million subscribers, and is an executive analyst for The Economist Group.

Katie Barr serves as the Glen Echo Group’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, specializing in issue advocacy, message development and coalition building. Barr manages the Glen Echo Group’s Chicago office, where she designs and implements successful public affairs campaigns to strategically position executive teams and emerging technologies in the D.C. market and across the nation.

Prior to joining Glen Echo, Barr served as a Director at Qorvis Communications where she represented clients specializing in public relations, grassroots and issue advocacy and social media communications. She also spent time at Trippi & Associates where she learned under the tutelage of one of the nation’s premier political consultants, Joe Trippi, providing multimedia and strategic communications for progressive political, nonprofit and corporate campaigns.

Barr graduated from Brown University with degrees in Political Science and Public Policy and American Institutions. A Chicago native and lifelong Cubs fan, Barr is proudly flying the W in the Windy City, where she serves as a mentor at 1871, Chicago's home for entrepreneurship and technology, and Impact Engine, a Chicago-based venture fund.

Working with multiple clients in the Fortune 500, including some of the world’s largest companies in retail pharmacy and healthcare, Aaron specialized in campaign management, public relations, and grassroots mobilization.

He earned a B.A. in political science from American University in Washington, D.C. Born and raised in Illinois, Aaron misses real Chicago-style deep dish and believes lunch is the most important meal of the day.

Katie Barr

Executive Vice President & COO

Katie Barr serves as the Glen Echo Group’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, specializing in issue advocacy, message development and coalition building.
